We appreciate the original ideals of the cryptocurrency movement. When Bitcoin was originally created it was in the wake of the 2008 Financial Crisis. At MindLift, we were also disgusted with the ease in which governments seemed so eager to appropriate people’s money to cover the losses incurred by irresponsible private financial institutions.
The Environment
That said, cryptocurrency is not without it’s flaws. The Proof of Work algorithm that bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies rely upon, requires a great deal of energy (the bitcoin network alone, exceeds the energy consumption of Argentina).
But it’s important to not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Many cryptocurrencies are moving to a ‘proof of stake’ model, much less computationally, and energetically, intensive.
Furthermore, even in the case of bitcoin. Does the bitcoin network exceed the energy consumption of the traditional banking system? Of the precious metal industry (mining of gold and silver, etc.)? The answer is no.

At MindLift, we believe the benefits of having an alternative decentralized monetary system ultimately outweigh the downsides.
Furthermore, although we personally believe it’s very safe to purchase psilocybin over the internet in Canada, there are still some people who would rather not leave a paper trail. For those anonymity-obsessed individuals, the ability to buy mushrooms with crypto is a massive boon.
